VERTIGO-VOMEX SR sustained-release capsules can be taken in elderly patients for symptom relief of dizziness of various causes. VERTIGO-VOMEX SR contains dimenhydrinate from the H1 antihistamine drug group as the active ingredient. Dimenhydrinate is supposed to act quickly and safely in the appropriate center of the brain without affecting the centers for respiration or circulation. VERTIGO-VOMEX SR sustained-release capsules act on the organ of balance in the inner ear, inhibiting the transmission of stimuli from the inner ear to the brainstem and affecting the center for vertigo in the brainstem. They also relieve nausea and vomiting that may occur during acute attacks of vertigo.
The effect of VERTIGO-VOMEX SR sustained-release capsules occurs after 15 to 30 minutes. The effect may last for 3 to 6 hours, as the active ingredient is released only gradually - i.e. over a longer period of time. Due to this release of the active ingredient over a longer period of time, fatigue as a side effect occurs less or not as frequently in contrast to dosage forms that release the active ingredient immediately.
The capsules can be taken independently of a meal.
Adults (over 56 kg body weight): 1 to 2 capsules daily. The interval between doses should be about 8 h.
In case of a longer intake period than 2 weeks as well as persistent or worsening symptoms, the doctor should be contacted.
The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.
How to use?
Take the medicine with liquid (e.g. 1 glass of water).
Duration of use?
In principle, the medicine should only be used for a short time. You should not use the medicine for longer than 2 weeks without medical advice. If your symptoms persist for longer, you should consult your doctor. After 2 weeks of treatment at the latest, you should check whether further treatment is necessary.
Overdose?
In the event of an overdose, drowsiness, impaired consciousness, hallucinations and cardiovascular disorders may occur. If you suspect an overdose, contact a doctor immediately.
Have you forgotten to take it?
Continue taking the medicine as normal (i.e. not double the amount) at the next prescribed time.
As a general rule: Pay particular attention to conscientious dosing, especially with infants, small children and older people. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist about any effects or precautions.
A dosage prescribed by a doctor may differ from the information on the package leaflet. As the doctor will adjust it individually, you should therefore use the medicine according to his instructions.
Dosage
Adults (over 56 kg body weight) 1 capsule 1-2 times daily at intervals of 8 hours, regardless of the meal
Maximum dose: A dose of 3 capsules per day should not be exceeded.
- dizziness
How does the active ingredient of the medicine work?
The active ingredient blocks receptors for a specific messenger substance called histamine. This blockade suppresses histamine-induced vasodilation and increased blood flow in the smallest hair vessels (capillaries). It also combats nausea via the same mechanism and has a calming effect.

What should you be aware of?
- The ability to react may be impaired even when used as intended, especially at higher doses or in combination with alcohol. Pay particular attention when driving or operating machinery (including household machinery) that could cause injury.
- Avoid excessive UV radiation, e.g. in solariums or during extended sunbathing, because the skin reacts more sensitively during the use of the medicine.
- Sudden discontinuation may cause problems or discomfort. Treatment should therefore be stopped slowly, i.e. by gradually reducing the dose. It is best to seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist.
- Caution: If you use the medicine over a longer period of time, your body may become accustomed to it and you may need an increasingly higher dosage in order to feel any effect.
- Take care if you are allergic to dyes (e.g. quinoline yellow with the E number E 104)!
- Take care if you are allergic to dyes (e.g. indigo carmine with the E number E 132)!
- Take care if you are intolerant to sucrose. If you have to follow a diabetes diet, you should take the sugar content into account.
- There may be medicines with which interactions occur. You should therefore generally inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medicine you are already using before starting treatment with a new medicine. This also applies to medicines that you buy yourself, use only occasionally or have been using for some time.
