Details

The Canesten extra nail set is used in the therapy of nail fungus and results are already visible after 1 to 2 weeks. This is possible due to the combination of medicinal substances in the ointment contained. The urea contained softens the affected nail so that it can be gradually removed. The second active ingredient, bifonazole, then fights the fungi. After 2 weeks, the affected nail is further treated with a cream containing bifonazole, e.g. Canesten extra cream (not in the set).

Application:

The cream containing the active ingredient is applied to the affected nail and covered with the included plaster. After approx. 24 hours, the plaster can be removed and the softened, infested nail can be removed with the included spatula. This is repeated daily over a period of 14 days. Afterwards, the infected nail should only be treated with a cream containing bifonazole, e.g. Canesten extra cream (not included in the set).

How to use?
Apply the medicine to the affected nail(s). Then stick the plaster over the nail for 24 hours. To change the dressing daily, soak the fingers or toes in warm water for approx. 10 minutes and then scrape off the softened nail substance with a spatula. After drying, apply ointment again and stick on a plaster.

Duration of application?
The duration of application depends on the type of symptoms and/or the course of the disease. General duration of treatment: 7-14 days. After nail detachment, further treatment with a fungicide is necessary.

Overdose?
No overdose symptoms are known. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

Forgotten application?
Continue the application at the next prescribed time as normal (i.e. not with double the amount).

How do the ingredients of the medicine work?

The medicine consists of an active ingredient combination of bifonazole and urea.
Bifonazole acts against fungal diseases. The active ingredient damages the outer shell, the so-called cell membrane of fungi. This envelope thus loses some of its functions, e.g. it becomes more impermeable to nutrients - the cell starves, or cell components leak out and the cell dissolves. Depending on the concentration of the active ingredient, the fungi are inhibited in their growth and reproduction or killed directly. The active ingredient is also effective against certain bacteria.
Urea provides the skin with more moisture and allows it to retain it for longer. As a result, the upper horny layer softens and the skin becomes smoother and softer. The horny plate of the nail can also be softened and gradually removed. The addition of urea enables the active ingredient bifonazole to penetrate from the surface of the skin into the deeper layers.

Art der Anwendung?
Tragen Sie das Arzneimittel auf den/die betroffenen Nagel/ Nägel auf. Kleben Sie danach das Pflaster für 24 Stunden über den Nagel. Zum täglichen Verbandwechsel baden Sie die Finger oder Zehen ca. 10 Minuten in warmem Wasser und kratzen anschließend mit dem Spatel die aufgeweichte Nagelsubstanz ab. Nach dem Abtrocknen wird erneut Salbe aufgetragen und ein Pflaster aufgeklebt.

Dauer der Anwendung?
Die Anwendungsdauer richtet sich nach der Art der Beschwerden und/oder dem Verlauf der Erkrankung. Allgemeine Behandlungsdauer: 7-14 Tage. Nach der Nagelablösung ist eine Weiterbehandlung mit einem Pilzmittel notwendig.

Überdosierung?
Es sind keine Überdosierungserscheinungen bekannt. Im Zweifelsfall wenden Sie sich an Ihren Arzt.

Wie wirken die Inhaltsstoffe des Arzneimittels?

Das Arzneimittel besteht aus einer Wirkstoffkombination aus Bifonazol und Harnstoff.
Bifonazol wirkt gegen Pilzerkrankungen. Der Wirkstoff schädigt die äußere Hülle, die sog. Zellmembran von Pilzen. Diese Hülle verliert somit einen Teil ihrer Funktionen, sie wird z.B. für Nährstoffe undurchlässiger - die Zelle hungert, oder Zellbestandteile treten aus und die Zelle löst sich auf. Je nach Wirkstoffkonzentration werden die Pilze dadurch in ihrem Wachstum und ihrer Vermehrung gehemmt oder direkt abgetötet. Der Wirkstoff ist außerdem gegen bestimmte Bakterien wirksam.
Durch Harnstoff wird die Haut verstärkt mit Feuchtigkeit versorgt und kann diese länger speichern. In Folge weicht die obere Hornschicht auf und die Haut wird geschmeidiger und weicher. Außerdem kann auch die Hornplatte des Nagels aufgeweicht und nach und nach entfernt werden. Der Zusatz von Harnstoff ermöglicht dem Wirkstoff Bifonazol das Vordringen von der Hautoberfläche in die tiefergelegenen Schichten.
